Monday nights council meeting, convening at 7:30 p.m., was adjourned in time for attendees to be home to watch the 49ers take on the Bears at 8:30 p.m. or Dancing with the Stars if thats more your taste.
Louis Ferraros contract as police chief was approved unanimously. The specifics of the contract were not discussed at the meeting and were not included in the resolution passed at the meeting.
Mayor Donald Burden remarked on the need for clearer communication between JCP&L and the borough in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. He reported on Monday afternoons meeting of local officials, state legislators and OEM representatives. The group assembled twelve recommendations to present to JCP&L and the state Board of Public Utilities. The specifics will be recapped at a meeting slated for November 28 at 1 p.m. at Shrewsbury Borough Hall for borough residents who took on leadership roles in Sandy.
Councilman Tom Menapace reported that the Community Garden will close on December 1. With their final harvest of the season, members of the Shrewsbury Garden Club Society donated fresh produce to those in need in Sea Bright. Menapace said, It was a nice way to close out their produce growing for the year.
Children from the Shrewsbury Borough School read their winning anti-drug and anti-bullying public service announcements as a part of the Shrewsbury Community Alliances Red Ribbon week. Councilman Jeff DeSalvo commended the alliance, calling the Red Ribbon week a great success.
Georgia Blair was presented with a First Aid Life Saving Commendation for reviving an individual who was choking.
