Kate Edwards, a senior at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, has committed to the Women’s Rowing Team at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Edwards, who was heavily recruited by over a dozen top colleges and universities, made her commitment on August 12.

“The outstanding educators at RFH have really inspired me to achieve my goals,” said Edwards, who is a High Honors student and a member of the National Honor Society.

Edwards is a Varsity Rower on the team sponsored by the Rumson-Fair Haven Rowing Program. She has been active in rowing for seven years.

“I started out as a coxswain when I was in fifth grade, and became a rower as I grew taller and reached my current height of five feet, eleven inches,” said Edwards. “When I was an eighth grade student, I had the opportunity to accompany Rumson Crew’s first women’s team to the Henley Women’s Regatta at Henley-on-Thames, England.”

More recently Edwards helped her team earn first place honors in the Lake Lenape Sprints, first place in the Central New Jersey Championship, and second place honors in the Cooper Cup Regatta.

The Drexel University Crew is one of the premier collegiate Division I programs in the U.S. Recently the Drexel Women’s and Men’s Crew Teams won the coveted Dad Vail Championship with a combined score of 45, besting Michigan, Grand Valley, and Michigan State.

The Drexel Women’s and Men’s Crews will join teams from Army, Villanova, and Rutgers as they race for the Governor’s Cup in the fourth annual Rumson Boat Race to be held on September 28, 2013 on the Navesink River.

Rumson-Fair Haven Rowing, located at Victory Park, is supported by the Boroughs of Rumson and Fair Haven.
