Press release from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School

It’s been said that “the third time is the charm,” but the fourth time was also the charm for the Girls Field Hockey Team at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School.

They recently captured their fourth consecutive championship in the highly competitive “Central A” Division with undefeated conference play.

The RFH players then continued their streak of success in the Shore Conference Tournament, where they made it the semifinals and faced Freehold Boro High School (RFH lost 2-1).

Next up was the State Sectional Tournament, where the RFH girls bested South Plainfield High School in a 7-0 shutout game to win the North II Group 2 State Championship. This State Sectional title is the second in two seasons and the third in the program’s history.

Despite having just three returning starters on the roster, the team ended its season with impressive records of 19-2-1 overall and 11-0-1 in conference play.

“I was very anxious to see what this young team would accomplish, and they have far exceeded my expectations,” said Head Coach Julie Vaccarelli. “I was continually impressed by what unfolded during the season.”

Key contributors to the program recently earned honors from the Asbury Park Press.

Senior center back Bridget Miles and sophomore center midfielder Madison Maguire were named to the “First Team All-Shore.”

Recognized as “Second Team All-Shore” were junior midfielder Abigael Donohue and junior defender Catie Ebner.

Sophomore midfielder Maggie Jennings was named to the “Third Team All-Shore.”

“The girls were dedicated and focused from the get-go, beginning at the end of June with early-morning conditioning and keeping up the momentum until the final whistle blew in our last game,” said Vaccarelli. “The coaches could not have been prouder of the outcome, and the experience that our players gained this season will surely benefit our program in the years to come.”

In addition to Miles, Maguire, Donohue, Ebner, and Jennings, the RFH field hockey roster features Emily Babeuf, Rachel Knochenhauer, Lauren Melita, Megan O’Hare, Brigid Schutsky, Megan Kane, Molly Lake, Maggi McCann, Peyton McCauley, Anna Babiak, Kara Dixon, Kiera McKay, Gabrielle Ramirez, Maisie Sapnar, Kate Sustick, Sarah Bayer, and Elizabeth Horan.

Assistant Coaches are Enza Mazza, Kathleen Dunfee, Kristen Mahon, and Kasie Nurko.
