The Shrewsbury Towne-Monmouth Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored a holiday gathering at Nauvoo Restaurant in Fair Haven on December 7. More than 40 members attended the luncheon, in addition to guests that included representatives from many chapters of New Jersey Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
In honor of Pearl Harbor Day, the DVD Top Secret Rosies: The Female Computers of WWII was shown, and an exhibit of member’s WWII veteran’s memorabilia was displayed for all to see.
At the luncheon, checks were given to the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, the Sandy Hook Lighthouse Foundation, and the local Pajama Program. Toys were also given to the Lunch Break program of Red Bank, and speakers included representatives from both Lunch Break and the Pajama Program.
The Monmouth Chapter of DAR was organized on June 29, 1900. In 1935, Shrewsbury Towne Chapter was formed. Over the years Shrewsbury Towne and Monmouth chapters shared many joint meetings, luncheons and patriotic activities. In 2004, the two chapters united and formed the Shrewsbury Towne-Monmouth Chapter. The chapter meets the first Monday of each month at the Shrewsbury Historic Society in Shrewsbury, NJ.
