Press release from Red Bank Humanists

On October 12, nearly two years since Superstorm Sandy wrought unprecedented devastation to the tri-state region, the Red Bank Humanists are sponsoring a panel discussion entitled “Sandy Spotlight: Where Do We Go from Here?” The event, which will take place between 10:30 am and noon at Red Bank Charter School, is open to the public, and admission is free.

“Two years after Sandy, people are still displaced and suffering,” noted Trudy Lagan, organizer of the event and Vice President of the Board of Directors of the RBH. “We hope the discussion will spur more support for those who need it, as well as give a deeper understanding of the tough questions that arise when evaluating how to avoid or mitigate another disaster like Sandy in the future.”

Panel participants include Jennifer Maier, Borough Administrator of Union Beach; Britta Wenzel, environmentalist, business owner, and director of Save Barnegat Bay; Shawna Sullivan, Director of Constituent Affairs for Jennifer Beck (R) NJ State Senator and Declan J. O’Scanlon, Jr. (R) NJ State Assemblyman; and Tricia McAvoy, a Brick Township homeowner impacted by the storm. The panel will be moderated by April W. Klimley, a Red Bank Humanists member who has written about Sandy recovery for NJ Business Magazine.

The RBH Community Outreach Group will be collecting home supplies to be distributed through the Visitation Relief Center in Brick, NJ in Welcome Baskets to people moving back into their homes. For further information, contact Trudy Lagan at (C.) 732-245-7046 or email [email protected].
