Online shopping was never like this: Brookdale Community College hosts the brick ‘n mortar bazaar that is the 25th annual Jersey Shore Home Show, one of a pair of three-day special events happening this weekend on the Lincroft campus.Â
It’s a strolling smorgasbord of product showcases and demos — everything from spas to sponges, bath stalls to burglar alarms, flagpoles to floor coverings, stonework to solar panels, windows to water treatments, and every helpful/ healthful thing between.
Now marking a quarter-century as a form of therapy for cabin fever in the drab foothills of the calendar year, the Jersey Shore Home Show returns to the Robert J. Collins Arena at Brookdale Community College for a 25th annual edition.
Kicking off Friday between the hours of 1 and 8 pm, the event offers a rare opportunity to “stay at home” while being sociable, and a chance for a wide swath of home improvement contractors, vendors and manufacturers to show off their goods and services. So whether you’re a diehard DIY’er or a domestic dilettante, you can get pleasantly lost in this midway of merch, checking out the latest super-absorbent shammy or water-repellant shingle.
You could even get a back rub — and you can get your tickets online ($8 adults; free for age 17 and under) right here. The Home Show continues Saturday (11 am – 8 pm) and Sunday (11 am – 5 pm), with free parking in BCC’s parking lots 6 and 7 — and there’s much more to check out on campus this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Beginning with an appointment-only presale on Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10, BCC will be offering “hundreds of high-end pianos, guitars, violins and other musical instruments” for purchase to the public, during a special offering that takes place inside the school’s Performing Arts Center.
Climaxing with a public-welcome sale on Sunday, January 11 from noon to 5 pm, the event features a selection of gently used instruments (most of them less than a year old) that includes grand pianos, baby grands, digital player pianos, upright pianos, digital pianos, acoustic and electric guitars, and orchestral strings. Manufacturers represented include Pramberger, Yamaha, Seiler, Knabe and Roland, and the instruments include factory warranties plus available interest-free financing.
It’s all part of a partnership between Brookdale and the Rockley Family Foundation, a non-profit established to promote music education. The foundation loans new instruments to Brookdale music students on an annual basis — and at the end of the year, those instruments (and others offered through similar programs across the country) are made available to the public to raise funds for the following year’s program.
