RED BANK: EVERY DOG HAS ITS NIGHT

081914-rbdogs4-500x375-5818885Canine visitors and their human handlers are invited to paws and relax when Red Bank Dog Days return for a new season Tuesday evening.

061714-dogs12-220x165-1022954[UPDATE: This event has been postponed to June 23 because of adverse weather forecasts.]

The interval known as the “dog days of summer” doesn’t occur until early July — and in fact, summer itself doesn’t officially begin until June 21. But in Red Bank, pet pooches and human handlers can get a leg up on the competition during the first in a new season of Dog Day evenings on Tuesday, June 16.

Presented by Red Bank RiverCenter and the borough of Red Bank on the third Tuesday of each summer month, the series takes place on Monmouth Street, which will be partially closed to vehicular traffic between the hours of 6 to 9 p.m.

Attendees are invited to stroll and sniff around a vendor marketplace featuring doggie-centric products and services ranging from organic treats to dog bandanas, toys, collars, leashes and more. Streetside tables and chairs will be provided for take-out dining, and dog-friendly stores will be open for business, with guests encouraged to look for the large paw-print decal in the windows of participating stores

The series is co-sponsored by Purina and Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, which will be on hand with water stations, cleanup areas, dog first aid, nutritionists and behaviorists. Also present in the Dog Day zone between Broad Street and Drummond Place will be informational tables on boarding facilities, shelters and grooming services, as well as rescue operations and other animal-related charities.

Best of all, each event in the three-part 2015 series carries a different theme, with Tuesday’s being a beach party for people and pets alike. July 21 offers up a “Patriotic” celebration, while August 18 rolls out the red carpet for a “Hollywood” style soiree. Dog owners are encouraged to dress their dogs according to each theme (and there’s nothing stopping the owners from getting into the act themselves).

Event organizers ask that owners please leash all dogs (no retractable type leashes). For the safety of other dogs, pet owners are advised to make sure their animal’s vaccines are current. Take it here for additional information.

Remember: Nothing makes a Red Bank friend happier than to hear "I saw you on Red Bank Green!"
