FAIR HAVEN: JAEGER TO MEET FANS AT FAIR

RFH CHEERS JAEGER TO OLYMPIC SILVER IN RIO

jaeger rfh 081316 7jaeger rfh 081316 4An audience of about 100 kids and adults showed up at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional to watch and cheer as alumnus Connor Jaeger — class of 2010 — swam in the 1500-meter men’s freestyle final at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil Saturday night. Competing in his second consecutive Olympics, Jaeger finished second in the event, but gave proud local fans a thrill in the process. “Knowing that you guys are here has a huge impact,” 2000 Olympics swimmer Tom Wilkens, a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, told the crowd before the race.  (Photos by John T. HOT-TOPIC_03A native of Fair Haven and a member of the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Class of 2010, swimmer Connor Jaeger made waves on the hometown front when he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team with a first-place finish and time of 14:47.61 in the 1,500 meter freestyle race.

On Saturday, August 13, the son of Bernadette and Eric Jaeger is scheduled to go for the gold, as he vies in the 1,500 meter event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. While the eyes of a worldwide audience will be focused on the competition down in Brazil, the staff of Connor’s alma mater will be offering fans, classmates and other locals a unique chance to join “Team Jaeger” in a supportive crowd setting.

FAIR HAVEN SWIMMER HEADING TO LONDON

Fair Haven’s Connor Jaeger landed a spot on the U.S. Olympic swim team roster with a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter freestyle Monday.

Jaeger’s achievement came one day after he gave sports fans a chuckle – and a lesson in dogged determination – when he continued swimming after winning a heat in the 1,500. He explained afterward that he’d lost count of his laps and didn’t hear the bell indicating he’d won.
