River Road in Fair Haven is lit up like a runway now that new streetlights have been installed on both sides of the thoroughfare.

You may have noticed, as well, that still stationed on the stretch through downtown are the old lights, casting pallid halogen beams down over the new, old-look fixtures.

Those aren’t coming down any time soon, although they will be shut off, making for a uniform glow down the renovated streetscape of the busy road, officials say.

OCEANIC BRIDGE CLOSED AFTER POWER LOSS

The Oceanic Bridge, which connects Rumson and Middletown over the Navesink River, lost power Tuesday afternoon and is closed to traffic until further notice, the Monmouth County Engineering Office said.

The bridge, which has been under a weight restriction since late 2009, lost power while in the upright position at about 3 p.m., a release from the county said.

BENT POLE SHUTS BROAD STREET BLOCK

A precariously bent utility pole caused Red Bank police to shut down Broad Street between Bergen Place and Pinckney Road beginning at about noon Sunday.

Though the upper part of the pole had been leaning toward the street for some time, the condition had noticeably worsened in recent days, calling for an emergency detour of traffic away from that block, an officer on the scene told redbankgreen.
