Recently, Matthew (“Matt”) Valko completed his U.S. Marine Corps boot camp training and headed to the Combat Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. But before that, the native of Fair Haven had another important milestone to address, at the middle school from which he graduated in 2010.

Matt’s photo has now been added to the Knollwood School “Wall of Honor,” featuring graduates who are proudly serving their country in the armed forces. Located prominently in the main hallway of the school, the Wall of Honor was commissioned in 2011 by co-chairs Betsy Koch, an eighth grade science teacher at the school, and Joe Perrotto, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

FAIR HAVEN BOARD OF ED MEMBERS SWORN IN

At a reorganization meeting held on January 7, Fair Haven residents Jennifer Halcrow, Bruce Padula, and Karen Saad were sworn in as members of the borough’s Board of Education. The three new members, all of whom were duly elected to full three-year terms, will  serve on the board along with Michael Bernstein, Claudia Brasch (Vice President), Mark Mancuso (President), Tracy Rehder, Jeffrey Spector, and Randi Walker.

The oath of office was administered by Board of Education Attorney Anthony P. Scarrillo. Among those in attendance and offering congratulations and support was former Board member Katy Frissora, who was thanked for her eight years of dedicated service by Mancuso. Frissora and Cathy Alescio, who served one term of three years, both did not seek re-election this year when their terms expired.

FAIR HAVEN FOUR SWORN IN BY BOARD OF ED

The Board of Education of the Fair Haven School District held its reorganizational meeting on January 8, inside the Media Center at Knollwood School.

During the 7 pm event, Board of Education Attorney Anthony P. Scarrillo administered the oath of office to newly re-elected members Michael Bernstein, Claudia Brasch, Katy Frissora, and Jeffrey Spector. All four were incumbents who ran unopposed.

According to official results received from the Board of County Canvassers, Bernstein, Brasch, and Spector were duly elected as members of the Fair Haven Board of Education for a full three-year term. Frissora was duly elected for a one-year unexpired term. They serve on the board along with Cathy Alescio, Elaine Lehnert, President Mark Mancuso, Tracy Rehder, and Randi Walker.
