If you are seeking a new job or even a career change, you should look no further than Monmouth County’s Spring Job Fair on Friday, April 21. The free admission event will be hosted inside the Robert J. Collins Arena at the Lincroft campus of Brookdale Community College.

Running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Spring Job Fair will provide you with access to employers seeking talented candidates in every discipline, from hospitality and health care to finance, education, telecommunications, computer science and everything in between. More than 140 local businesses and resource organizations have made arrangements to participate.

Judith Tolchin, Acting Director of the Monmouth County Library system since January, 2014 was appointed Library Director at the recent meeting of the County Library Commission, held at the Eastern Branch location in Shrewsbury.

Tolchin, who has been with the library system for 23 years, immediately outlined a vision and her plan of action and expectation for the coming years through a Powerpoint presentation, covering everything from the need and desire for facilities improvements to the headquarters in Manalapan, to grants, corporate sponsorships and other means to raise funds to supplement county taxes that finance the library system’s 13 branches and 14 member libraries.

SHREWSBURY: MEANDERING OLD MONMOUTH

If it’s the first Saturday and Sunday in May, this must be the Weekend in Old Monmouth — and if you’re sufficiently curious about the rich history of the place where you live, there’s never been a better time to take a closer look at the area’s many historic places, some of which you’ve surely passed by countless times on your way to someplace a bit less charming.

A series of free, self-guided tours of some 45 homes, meeting halls and houses of worship in Monmouth County, the eighth annual event (brought to you by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Monmouth County Historical Commission) runs four color-coded tour routes on Saturday (10 am – 5 pm) and Sunday 3 (12 – 5 pm) — with all stops on the tour synching up their visitation hours, and waiving any admission fees for the duration of the weekend.

MONMOUTH COUNTY SHREDS IT AT MARINE PARK

Got bags and boxes and drawers full of outdated and unwanted paper documents, financial records and other sensitive but space-invading files? On the afternoon of Saturday, May 3, all Monmouth County residents are invited to bring their confidential materials to Red Bank’s Marine Park, where the County of Monmouth will host the first of four spring 2014 Paper Shredding events.

Between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm, county residents can bring up to 100 pounds of paper materials to the mobile shredding truck stationed in the parking lot of the park, at the foot of Wharf Avenue. Materials will be shredded on premises, and residents are encouraged to arrive as early as possible, as “the shredding event will stop once the shredding truck is full.” Documents should be free of large binder clips; staples and paper clips may be left on documents.

HELP FOR THE HOMELESS, IN RED BANK

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders,in conjunction with Pilgrim Baptist Church and JBJ Soul Kitchen, will host its Annual Project Homeless Connect event on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

The event will provide free medical screenings, flu shots and HIV testing. Coats, Clothing and Toiletries will also be available to all participants at no cost. Representatives from Social Services (food stamps), Medicaid/Medicare, Employment & Training, Veterans Affairs, and other agencies will be on-site to assist individuals and families.

All are welcome at the event , which takes place at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank, from 9 am – 2 pm. All in attendance will have an opportunity to be a guest for a complimentary lunch at JBJ Soul Kitchen, 207 Monmouth Street.
