BUCS GO TO 5-0 AFTER ROAD WIN

ROAD WINS PUT BUCS & CASEYS AT 3-0

Week three of the 2015 high school football season kicked off with Friday night victories by Red Bank Regional and Red Bank Catholic, and the video cameras of Shore Sports Zone were there.

On the road at Ocean Township, the RBR Bucs’ 16-6 win was highlighted by an 88-yard TD by Matt Reardon on a a Jack Navitsky pass to end the third quarter. Reardon also busted up Ocean’s attempt for two after its lone touchdown. The Bucs are now 3-0 on the season.

R-FH, RBC & RBR POST CONVINCING WINS

How did your high school football team do Friday night? Pretty darn well, if you’re talking about Rumson-Fair Haven, Red Bank Catholic or Red Bank Regional, as this monster highlight reel from Shore Sports Zone  shows.

Playing at home, the R-FH Bulldogs topped the Matawan Huskies 17-0 in a game with a scoreless second half. Quarterback Michael O’Connor connected with sophomore receiver Elijah McAllister for a 16-yard touchdown pass: check it out at the start of the reel.

Fast-forward to 5:50 if you’re in a rush to see how Eddie Hahn and the 2014 state champion RBC Caseys played against St. Joe’s of Metuchen. A week after putting the Caseys in the capable hands of backup QB Colin Shaughnessy, Hahn returned from injury for his first appearance of the season by tossing three TDs, including a 49-yarder to Mike Wilen, who also ripped an 80-yard TD run against the Falcons.

Then zap ahead to 9:40 to see highlights of Colts Neck at RBR, where a Matt Reardon interception sparked an offensive blitzkrieg that ended with a 30-0 blowout win for the Bucs, their second straight. RBC IN ‘RESET’ MODE AFTER STATE TITLE

.Shore Sports Zone kicks off its 2015 Shore Conference preview tour with 2014 state champion Red Bank Catholic. Led on the field by quarterback Eddie Hahn, the Caseys say they’re in reset mode, adjusting to the loss of 14 starters but looking forward, not backward, says Coach Jim Portela.

RFH GIRLS COME UP SHORT IN STATE FINAL

The Rumson-Fair Haven girls’ lacrosse fought hard to keep up with Summit but fell, 12-5, in the Group 2 girls’ lacrosse state championship at Kean University Saturday. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the season at 23-2 and wearing the South Jersey Group 2 crown. Congratulations on a thrilling season, ladies!

RFH GIRLS ARE STATE GROUP 2 LAX CHAMPS

Three members of the Rumson-Fair Haven girls’ lacrosse squad – Jillian Swikart, Elizabeth Scarrone and Brittany Bruno – had hat tricks as the Lady Bulldogs pelted Red Bank Catholic, 14-5, to win the South Jersey Group 2 final Wednesday. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

The Lady Bulldogs, now 23-1 on the season, will face Summit on Saturday in the Group 2 Finals.

RBC GIRLS HEAD TO STATE LACROSSE SEMIS

After falling behind 2-0, the Red Bank Catholic girls’ lacrosse squad surged to a 15-9 win at home over Robbinsville to advance in the South Jersey Group 2 title tourney Tuesday. Shore Sports Zone has the game highlights.

The Caseys will host West Deptford in the semifinal round at Count Basie Fields on Thursday.

RFH: SWIKART’S ALL ABOUT THE ASSISTS

With the girls’ lacrosse squad of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional heading into the second round of the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs as the top seed, midfielder Jillian Swikart is clearly a standout. She scored seven goals as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a third consecutive Shore Conference Tournament championship last week.

But Swikart – who managed the boys’ basketball team this winter – tells Shore Sports Zone that she gets more satisfaction from assists than from scoring herself. Watch for yourself.

The team faces Somerville in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

RFH: GIRLS CLINCH SCT LACROSSE TITLE

Number-one seed Rumson-Fair Haven’s girls dominated Shore Regional, 17-5, enroute to a third consecutive Shore Conference Tournament lacrosse championship at Monmouth University Monday.

Jillian Swikart scored seven goals and Brittany Bruno added six as the Lady Bulldogs broke a 4-4 tie to embark on a 13-1 run. Shore Sports Zone has the game highlights and post-game reaction.

RFH: GIRLS HEAD TO SCT LACROSSE FINALS

The number-one seed Rumson-Fair Haven Lady Bulldogs earned a trip to the Shore Conference Tournament lacrosse finals with a 16-11 win over Colts Neck at Ocean Township Saturday. Brittany Bruno had five goals and Elizabeth Scarrone added four. The Lady Bulldogs will face Shore Regional at Monmouth University for the championship on Monday at 4 p.m. Shore Sports Zone.

RFH GIRLS CRUISE PAST RBC, 14-2

Jillian Swikart scored five goals to pace the Rumson-Fair Haven Lady Bulldogs to a dominating effort at home over Red Bank Catholic in lacrosse Wednesday.  Brittany Bruno added three goals as RFH raced out to a 6-0 halftime lead and improved to 12-1 on the season. RED BANK: CASEYS SHELLAC BUCS, 15-6

Anthony DeRosa and Evan Madigan drove in four runs each as Red Bank Catholic swamped Red Bank Regional, 15-6, in Little Silver Wednesday morning. The Bucs closed a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the 4th, highlighted by a Nick Massa two-run base hit, but the Caseys answered with four runs in the 5th to put the game away. BORDENTOWN ENDS SEASON FOR RFH BOYS

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional’s dream season on the hardcourt ended with a 62-56 loss to Bordentown at home Friday night. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

The Bulldogs can console themselves with the Shore Conference title they won last month. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs are still alive in the state tourney, as are both the boys’ and girls’s teams of Red Bank Catholic.

Fresh off its shocking first-ever win of a Shore Conference Tournament, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional found the first round of the state championship tourney easy Monday, as the Bulldogs breezed past Delran, 99-56 Monday. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.
