morsels mediumWhile waiting for friends at Temple Gourmet Chinese in Red Bank recently, PieHole perused the menu and listened to our waitress describe the specials. But what, we wondered, had those people ordered?

A nearby table held a gleaming platter of golden fried rice lavished with sweet pineapple, golden raisins and cashew nuts.

It turns out to be a dish the kitchen will whip up for anyone who orders it. The secret?  You just have to know it exists.

Jersey Shore Restaurant Week kicks off this Friday, and runs through next Sunday, April 13. Participating restaurants will be offering fixed price menus at $20.14 (think about it…) and $30.14 (…but not too much).

BBQ JOINT EYES WEST SIDE; TEMPLE EXPANDS

Is it just wishful thinking, or is the tangy aroma of mesquite and beef about to join the pizza-dominated food scene in Red Bank?

Pit Boss Pure Barbecue, which has a restaurant on Route 35 in Middletown, is hoping to take over the former home of Red Bank Pizza on North Bridge Avenue, according to a representative of the landlord.

And in other Retail Churn news, Temple Gourmet Chinese has completed its doubling-down on Broad Street; another Chinese restaurant runs into a snafu; Hip & Humble Home finds a new, humble and possibly hip home, and an antiques business clears out.
