retail churn smallIt’s not so much that the block on which her business resides is undercaffeinated, by urban standards, that compelled new Sugarush owner Amanda Porter to open a café at the Red Bank desserts shop.

But add to that the fact that she’s got available storefront space; a bakery out back with the capacity to create a whole new, non-dessert treats menu; and is a self-style “coffee snob,” and well, how could she not?

But first, there are a couple of wedding ceremonies to officiate. And later this week, there’s an ice-cream party for kids at which he’s slated to do more than just make a cameo.

MIDDLETOWN: WEDDING NIGHT BROUHAHA

AUTHORITIES_MTOWN1-2014Two guests were arrested late Sunday night following a melee involving an estimated 300 people at a wedding reception in Middletown, police reported.

Here’s an account of the incident prepared by MTPD spokesman Lieutenant Steve Dollinger:

On July 27, 2014 at approximately 10:30 pm a large fight broke out at a wedding reception being held at Jacques Reception Hall located on Palmer Avenue in Middletown. Sergeant First Class William Colangelo and Patrolman Frank Mazza were working the reception as an off-duty assignment when they were alerted to a fight taking place.

In attendance was Kathryn Barnett, whose dance studio occupied the East Front Street space for three decades before relocating to Middletown earlier this year.

CANGEMI WEDS AS MENNA DOES THE HONORS

cangemi 2 101313In a ceremony officiated by Red Bank Mayor Pasquale Menna, former Councilwoman Mary Grace Cangemi married Gerard Ryan on the beach at Surfrider in Sea Bright Sunday afternoon. Though Menna, a Democrat, and Cangemi, a Republican, were once political adversaries, “we were always friends,” Menna told redbankgreen. “She never let those appellations of ‘Republican’ or ‘Democrat’ have anything to do with the decisions she made.”  (Click to enlarge)

Wedding and boudoir photographers John and Lovina Arcara have joined a recent resurgence in Red Bank: tenants of primo storefront space selling nothing more than memories.
