Hospital staff and emergency personnel outside the Blaisdell Pavilion during this morning’s fire.
Riverview Medical Center spokeswoman Donna Sellmann tells redbankgreen that this morning’s fire had no impact internally.
“At no times were patients affected,” she said. “They’re safety was not compromised.”
Several staffers and emergency responders were treated for smoke inhalation and released, she said.
Red Bank Fire Marshal Stanley Sickels was traveling this morning and not immediately available for comment on the fire.
The scene, as viewed from East Front Street.
Sellmann said the fire broke out in a basement utility area of the Blaisdell Pavilion, though she declined comment on an unconfirmed report that a ceiling light fixture might have been the source of the fire.
The Blaisdell Pavilion, which comprises the eastern wing of the facility, contains registration services, lab testing, some cardiac services and surgical areas. she said. The fifth-floor lights of the wing were off because that’s the location of the auditorium, which was not in use at that hour, Sellmann said.
The maternity ward is located in the J. Marshall Booker Pavilion, just west of the Blaisdell wing.
