Prosecutors in Hudson County have offered Jersey City cop Kevin Freibott of Middletown a plea deal that would send him to prison for 11 years for his alleged role in the DWI death of a two-year-old boy in January, the Star-Ledger reports today.
A guilty plea by Freibott to charges of vehicular manslaughter and assault by auto on the boy’s mother would require him to serve consecutive seven- and four-year prison terms, sparing him a possible 30-year prison sentence, the Ledger reports.
Ruth Zelaya has remained in a coma since her car was rear-ended by Freibott’s on the Pulaski Skyway. Freibott is out on bail.
The deal was offered to Freibott in court last week. It would require him to serve six years in prison before becoming eligible for parole, the Ledger reports.
