BROTHER’S PUNCH SENDS MAN TO HOSPITAL

The Asbury Park Press is reporting that a Spring Street man is hospitalized in serious condition after a fight with his brother at a Super Bowl party in Middletown on Sunday.

From the article:

James J. Gibbons, 44, of DeForrest Lane, Red Bank was arrested at his home Tuesday by Detectives Gerald Weimer and Jeffrey Barner. The 44-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault.

His brother, Christopher Gibbons, 39, of Spring Street, Red Bank, underwent emergency surgery Tuesday morning at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, police said.

The younger Gibbons suffered potentially life-threatening internal injuries when he was assaulted by his brother while they were at a friend’s Super Bowl party in Middletown, said Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti.

The Gibbons brothers were at the mutual friend’s home Sunday, and after the game ended, two other men began to wrestle and they damaged a wall in the home, said Capriotti.

When James Gibbons saw the damage, he mistakenly thought his brother was involved, so he asked him to go outside to talk, police said.

Outside, James Gibbons punched his brother, but the younger man did not seek medical attention until approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday, when his girlfriend brought him to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, police said.

Doctors there transferred him to the trauma center at Jersey Shore.

But hospital staff at Riverview called police after they learned his injuries were the result of an assault in Middletown, said Capriotti.

The older Gibbons was released on $25,000 bail, the Press says.
