Steven Adams, 28, was indicted on assault and falsifying records charges last October and pleaded guilty Dec. 17, at which time he forfeited his position as a member of the department and was barred from holding any public job in the future.
At the plea hearing, Adams admitted to causing bodily injury to 22-year-old Jonathan Wilson of Middletown while Wilson was in Adams’ custody in the parking lot at Red Bank Police Headquarters. Wilson had been arrested for disorderly conduct.
Adams also admitted that he misrepresented facts in his official police report regarding the removal of Wilson
from the police car, the press release says.
At the sentencing hearing, charges of official misconduct and aggravated assault were dismissed. This plea agreement was reached after members of the prosecutor’s office consulted with Wilson and his attorney, both of whom concurred with the plea agreement, the announcement says.
