A WALK, SOME BREAKFAST, AND FISH
Inspired by the challenges faced by a grandmother she never knew and her own mother, both of whom had Multiple Sclerosis, Barbara Sager has been walking.
That is, once a year, she participates in a 10-kilometer walk for the Multiple Sclerosis Society to raise funds to combat the disease.
“When I first heard that there was a walk, I said, ‘I have to do this,”” the Little Silver resident says.
That was 19 walks ago, events that have found Barbara pounding the asphalt in Massachussets, Virginia, Scotland and Australia. “They’re places where I happened to be the day of the walk,” she says.
Over the years, the yoga instructor and grandmother estimates she’s raised $60,000, with $50,000 of that having come her way in the last five or six years, when she ramped up her solicitations.
This year, on April 13, Barbara plans to walk in Belmar and Spring Lake. It will be her 20th outing in an event that used to take her about 90 minutes of vigorous walking but today takes “somewhat longer,” she allows.
Donors may contribute to Barbara’s walk here.
