GIRL INJURED IN LITTLE SILVER FIRE
A 15-year-old girl suffered second-degree burns in an early-morning fire on Rumson Place in Little Silver, the Asbury Park Press reports.
The girl, whose name was not reported, incurred burns on her arms and legs that are not considered life-threatening, the Press says, quoting Assistant Little Silver Fire Chief Frank Salerno.
The victim was taken to Riverview Medical Center, he said.
From the Press:
The fire was reported at 3:56 a.m., police said.
Fifty firefighters from Little Silver, Red Bank, Oceanport and Shrewsbury, battled the blaze for about a half hour before bringing it under control, Salerno said.
The fire did heavy smoke damage to the second floor of the house, but fire damage was mostly confined to the bedroom where the injured girl was sleeping, Salerno said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Salerno said. But fire officials said a preliminary investigation pointed toward a faulty electrical appliance as the likely cause.
