INTRUDER FOUND ASLEEP IN RUMSON HOME
Here’s a bizarre and scary break-in case in Rumson, as reported today’s Asbury Park Press:
Police arrested a Middletown man who was found sleeping in a child’s bed in a Club Way home early Wednesday morning.
Robert W. Sampson, 20, of Middletown was charged with burglary and criminal trespass and bail was set at $2,500.
Rumson police received a 911 call at 2:57 a.m., reporting an unknown male intruder. When patrolmen Anthony Ciambrone and Richard Torres arrived at 3 a.m., the child’s father took them to the bedroom where Sampson was asleep, police said. The family, including children, were home at the time.
Ciambrone and Torres held Sampson at gunpoint until he could be restrained and taken into custody. Officers from Fair Haven and Little Silver assisted.
