Two weeks after the election, Amy Mallet of Fair Haven has won a seat on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, tipping the majority in favor of Democrats for the first time in a generation, the Asbury Park Press reports.
The newspaper says Republican contender John Curley, the former Red Bank councilman who now lives in Middletown, conceded Mallet’s win to her in a phone call yesterday.
From the article:
“We had a nice conversation,” Mallet said. “We have something in common because for both of us it was nail-biting for two weeks.”
Mallet defeated Curley by a little more than 300 votes, a scant margin in an election where both candidates received more than 136,000 votes. Final numbers will be presented to the county Board of Canvassers today. The board will memorialize the tallies and certify other statistics from the Nov. 4 election.
