A Red Bank man was killed early Sunday when the van he was driving on the Garden State Parkway ran off the highway and rolled over in Wall Township, according to news accounts.
Yesterday’s Star-Ledger reported that Frank Martinez, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene a half hour after his 2001 Chevrolet van crashed about 2a.
Martinez’s van was on the southbound side when it veered off the side of the roadway at mile post 96.6 for unknown reasons, State Police spokesman Sgt. Julian Castellanos told the newspaper.
The vehicle, according to Castellanos, struck an embankment and rolled over on to its left side. Martinez, who did not appear to be wearing his seatbelt, was then partially thrown from the vehicle.
“He was partially ejected and sustained injuries to the head and neck,” said Castellanos.
Castellanos said the accident remains under investigation.
State police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones told the Asbury Park Press that it won’t be known if alcohol played a factor in the crash until toxicology results are completed.
