FAIR HAVEN REFLOATS BOAT-YARD DEBATE

FH boat drivewayThe backyard boat: sink it, or let it ride?

After a couple of months in dry dock, the issue of when Fair Haven residents should be allowed to keep boats in their yards bobbed back to the surface Monday night.

According to a report in today's Asbury Park Press, an ordinance introduced at the borough council's bimonthly meeting

would allow residents to park small boats no
longer than 21 feet long or several boats totaling 45 feet long in
their driveways from May 1 to Nov. 1. It would continue to allow
residents to store small boats in their backyards in the off-season and
contains a provision for hunting, fishing or shellfishing season, if
the owner has a valid license.

Councilman
Jerome Koch, who cast the lone "no" vote Monday night, questioned the
visual affect on neighborhoods if the ordinance is passed.

Councilman Christopher Rinn countered by saying not many residents will be affected by a change.
