sunningA visitor to Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank enjoys a rare outbreak of sunshine yesterday.

Experts say they have tentatively identified that bright, heat-yielding object seen in the sky Thursday afternoon as something called the sun.

But they don’t expect it to return for a prolonged stay in coming days, making for an iffy to downright wet weekend. Again.

Here’s the forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Southwest wind between 6 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. West wind between 6 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers between 10am and 1pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly cloudy, with a high near 86. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. West wind between 6 and 8 mph.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 80.
