Authorities are looking into the circumstances of the death of a man whose body was found on River Street near the Red Bank Primary School this morning.
They’ve ruled out homicide, police Capt. Steve McCarthy tells redbankgreen.
The identity and age of the deceased have not been disclosed while the Monmouth County medical examiner and the prosecutor’s office look into the matter, McCarthy says.
Neighbors tell us that the corpse was found on the porch of a house near the school. Police got the call at 6:57a.
All traffic in and out of the school grounds must pass the house, and it’s not clear if the body was covered by investigators before children began arriving for school.
“We were able to screen it somewhat,” McCarthy says.
McCarthy acknowledged that shielding children and other passersby from investigation scenes is sometimes difficult.
“We do the best we can,” he says. “We have to preserve the scene, and sometimes that’s at odds” with a desire to block the view of passersby.
A call to the prosecutor’s office was not immediately returned.
