The 80-year-old woman seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank yesterday has died.
Mary Spollen, of Middletown, died last night at the trauma center of Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, to which she had been transferred after first being taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, according to borough police. No other vehicles were involved.
She was a front-seat passenger in a car driven by 77-year-old Proculo Blando of Lincroft.
Police say Blando was leaving the Exxon station at Shrewsbury and Newman Springs Road at about 2:55p when he drove over a small landscaped area and the curb before crossing three lanes of traffic and striking a utility truck stopped for a light on Shrewsbury.
Blando and a passenger in the truck, Alphonso Ayers, 40, of Neptune, were also taken to Riverview. Ayers was released and Blando remains hospitalized.
No charges have been filed, police said.
Anyone with information concerning the accident is urged to contact Capt. McConnell at 732.530.2700.
