The Red Bank Public Library is looking for a few new lovers. Be it of books, music or the library itself, a group called the Friends of Red Bank Public Library is pulling out all its tricks to garner a little TLC.
In celebration of the Valentine-ish creation Library Lovers Month, the library is hosting its second annual book sale, but it’s more of a three-day party than anything else. The sale is slated for Saturday, February 6, but there will be a preview and reception at the library the night before. This shindig offers guests a chance to catch live music from Jim Crawford, sip wine, nosh on cheese and, perhaps most importantly, get the first shot at the books on sale.
If you miss either of those two events, you’ll have a shot at scoring bargains the following Monday, when you can fill up a bag of books for $2, between 10a and noon.
“It’s a really good deal,” said Beth Hanratty, one of the Friends of the library.
It’s not a good deal because they’re crummy books, either, Hanratty said. There’s a collection of at least 5,000 contemporary books, DVDs and CDs ready to go, with authors that include Tom Clancy, James Patterson and Nelson DeMille, to name a few notables.
“We only really want books that people want, and not just a garbage pile,” she said.
There is one ulterior motive for such a large scale event, Hanratty said.
“We’re hoping that we’ll get a lot of Red Bank residents out and we’ll pull them in to be friends of the library,” she said. “We want more people to be champions of the library.”

Preview and reception: 7 to 9p, Friday, February 5. Suggested donation $5
Book sale: 10a to 4p. Saturday, February 6
Bag sale: 10a to noon, Monday, February 7
Proceeds from the sale go toward improvements to the library.
