Highlands Mayor Anna Little has won the GOP primary for the 6th-district run against incumbent Congressman Frank Pallone, Monmouth County officials say, according to the Asbury Park Press.
But millionaire publisher Diane Gooch of Rumson is clinging to hope and won’t concede to Little without a recount of all 13,000-plus votes in the district, a Gooch lawyer tells the newspaper.
From the Press:
Timothy Howes, attorney for the Gooch campaign, said after the Monmouth County Board of Elections validated 16 provisional votes in the 6th District race 10 for Little and 6 for Gooch that Gooch will not concede.
Howes said the recount will be filed, but not Monday or Tuesday. The deadline for that filing is 15 days after an election, or by Wednesday, June 23.
“I think an election separated by these few votes calls for a recount,” Howes said.
The Press reports that Little, who had Tea Party support, held onto the 84-vote lead following the counting of provisional and absentee votes today.
