The outcome, from the local perspective, wasn’t desired, with the home team falling, 28-7, to the visiting Matawan Huskies.
But the Red Bank Regional Buccaneers played their first game under the lights on the new artificial field at Count Basie Field Thursday night to an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd that waited out a rain delay for kickoff.
From the Asbury Park Press:
Not even thunderstorms that delayed the game for nearly one hour slowed the Huskies as they scored 14 points in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead, and 14 more in the third to push their advantage to 28-0.Matawan took a 6-0 lead with 8:22 left in the second quarter on an 85-yard touchdown run by junior running back Cassius Williams, who bolted through the heart of the Bucs’ defense. Williams finished with 167 yards on eight carries.
The Bucs return to RBR to face Raritan High on Saturday, October 2, at 2p. Here’s the full sked.
