A Red Bank woman remained in critical condition Wednesday night following an accident in which she was struck by a truck while crossing West Front Street on foot.
According to police Captain Darren McConnell, Laura Martin, 40, was heading north-to-south at West Front and Maple Avenue at about 2:53p when she was hit by a New Jersey Transit truck.
The truck, driven by NJ Transit employee David Kieffer, 48, of Bordentown, was northbound on Maple and turning left onto West Front, McConnell said.
Martin, who lives in the neighborhood where she was struck, was taken by Red Bank First Aid and MONOC paramedics to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, McConnell said.
No charges have been filed, and the possible use of a cellphone by Martin as she crossed the street “is one aspect we’re looking into,” McConnell said, though he noted that the investigation was incomplete.
“Numerous” witnesses have been identified, McConnell said, but anyone else who saw the accident is encouraged to contact the department at (732) 530-2700a. Patrolman Beau Broadley and Sergeant Errico Vescio of the department’s traffic safety bureau are investigating.
