GRIN AND BEAR IT: SLICK ROADS EXPECTED

We’re in for an ugly couple of days, according to the weatherbot at the National Weather Service.

A region extending from the northern New Jersey coast down to Maryland is the subject of a winter storm watch effective Monday evening into Wednesday morning.

The storm is expected to drop up to two inches of snow by Tuesday morning. But its main feature will be the variety of nastiness falling from the sky.

We’re talking snow changing to sleet and/or rain from Monday night into Tuesday afternoon, with a slippery morning commute in the midst of that span.

We’re talking rain and sleet changing to freezing rain Tuesday night before turning to rain Wednesday morning, with possibly slick roads for the Wednesday morning.

The two evening commutes between now and then should be uneventful though, the NWS expects.

Here’s the day-by-day forecast:

Today: Increasing clouds, with a high near 31. North wind between 6 and 8 mph.

Tonight: Snow, mainly after 1am. Low around 22. East wind between 5 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain. High near 41. East wind 11 to 16 mph becoming southwest. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain showers before 8pm, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
