[UPDATE: The Monmouth County Prosecutor is treating the incident reported on below as a suicide, officials said.]
Police are conducting a crime investigation at a home in an upscale community in Little Silver.
Police would not offer any details on why they are at the home, at 84 Greenfield Court in the Alderbrook condominium and townhouse complex off Harding Road. An officer who had just cordoned off the home’s yard with yellow police tape said only that it was an active crime scene.
Police from Little Silver and Fair Haven arrived at the home, a single-family unit on a corner property of Alderbook Road, at about 10 a.m. and interviewed three people standing in the driveway.
By 10:30 a.m., authorities had wrapped the yard in yellow police tape and neighbors began emerging from their homes asking questions. A woman sat hunched on the curb sobbing while being consoled by two other people.
The scene drew residents of the complex, which features a community pool and tennis court. A next-door neighbor said she was told by police not to be alarmed, “but I don’t think it’s natural what happened.”
At around 11:10 a.m., a man in an unmarked Ford four-door sedan, wearing a white shirt, tie and plastic gloves, entered the home and another plain-clothed officer walked around the property taking pictures.
An operator from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, which normally handles major crimes, said the office had no details on the investigation and had not yet been called to the scene.
