Several major roadways were out of commission and an estimated 1,600 homes remained without electrical power in Little Silver Sunday evening.
There’s no firm estimate on when the juice will be back on, or when Jersey Central Power & Light will be available to address several downed power lines that, in conjunction with roadway flooding, have forced street closings, Lieutenant Joe Mazza tells redbankgreen.
Meanwhile, tonight’s high tide, following the ground-saturating downpour of Tropical Storm Irene (formerly Hurricane Irene), is expected to prolong the discomfort for residents and business owners.
“They can’t give us any estimate other than two hours two two days,” Mazza said of the power company officials.
The outages are in the areas of:
Seven Bridges Road
Little Silver Point Road
Silverside Avenue and adjoining neighborhoods
Prospect Avenue, between Willow Avenue and Point Road
Branch Ave north of Rumson Road and
Oakes Road and Mitchell Place
In addition, Seven Bridges Road in the vicinity of Point Road and the southern portion of Prospect Avenue are closed due to downed wires and flooding. The eastern end of Point Road was clear by late afternoon, but all three are expected to be reflooded by tonight’s high tide at 10:13 p.m., Mazza said.
Police are asking residents to stay in their homes if they don’t have to go out.
