RAIN DOMINATES FORECAST

You have to scroll pretty far down in the National Weather Service forecast to find mention of the sun today.

It’s not the best outlook for would-be participants in the Red Bank Townwide Yard Sale, the 2011 Rumson Boat Race and the Guinness Oyster Festival, among other outdoor events on the Go On Green calendar.

The Weather Channel says we’re in for 2 to 4 inches of rain from Friday into early next week.

Here’s the NWS outlook:

Today: A chance of rain and thunderstorms, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 8am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 75. Calm wind becoming southeast between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tonight: Rain. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 68. South wind between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 74. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. East wind at 7 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
