BATTER UP FOR TWO RIVER LITTLE LEAGUE

Winter may still have the greater Red Bank green in its icy clutches — but for the organizers of the Two River Little League, it’s “put me in, coach…there’s new grass on the field.”

There’s still time for boys and girls to sign up for the newly created league, with the deadline for registration on January 31 — and a special public information session for Red Bank kids and parents scheduled for 7:30 pm this Friday, January 24, at Borough Hall on Monmouth Street.

The league, open to residents of Fair Haven, Little Silver, Red Bank, Rumson and Shrewsbury, accepts applicants ages 5 through 16 — with boys and girls ages 9 to 16 eligible to compete in the TRLL’s debut spring season of baseball and softball play. Younger children (ages 5 to 8) will continue to play with their town’s recreational leagues in the existing Peninsula League.

In a statement, league president Chris Kelly of Shrewsbury remarked, “We are very excited to bring the competition of the Little League International to our towns, and encourage our residents to register their children to play in this, our inaugural year.”

Prospective players who live or attend school in Red Bank can go here for a registration form (or aqui to view the form en Español). For applicants who live or go to school in the other participating towns, registration can be completed online at each borough’s website, or by visiting their recreational departments.

Remember: Nothing makes a Red Bank friend happier than to hear "I saw you on Red Bank Green!"
