RBR CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH

On Thursday, February 20, Red Bank Regional High School celebrates Black History Month with the return of inspirational alumnus Ronald Dukes, bringing a message of hope and motivation to students in two separate assemblies (8:43 am and 9:56 am) inside the RBR auditorium.

African American history will also be celebrated with student performances in music, dance, prose and poetry, along with other planned programming.

A former resident of Red Bank and an honored alumnus of Red Bank Regional, Mr. Dukes won the Monmouth County Cotillion scholarship award and was crowned King of the Cotillion in 2008. A student in the RBR Academy of Finance, Ronald placed second in the Future Business Leaders State championship. He additionally won the Monmouth County School Boards Association’s Dr. Norman J. Field Student Recognition award. He graduated from Villanova University, where he was an AICPA Legacy Scholar.  He mentored other college students and is currently pursuing a career in accounting working for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as an internal audit services associate.

As part of the program, Mock Trial students will review major civil rights cases including Brown vs. the Board of Education.  Multicultural Club students will present a special tribute to Nelson Mandela. RBR dance students will demonstrate the origins of hip-hop in dance. VPA instrumental majors will perform pieces inspired by the Civil Rights era as well as African American spiritual pieces. RBR’s award-winning VPA creative writing majors will perform poetry celebrating the occasion. Three and four year olds in the Red Bank Primary School will join the program with their rendition of “He Has the Whole World in His Hands” and “We Can.”
