Since the deep of winter, artist Gerda Liebmann has been roaming the Green, iPhone in hand, shooting Vine videos. Her aim has been to capture, in seven seconds of video, a sense of place and vitality, which pretty much describes what redbankgreen hopes to be about.
We’ve got a little starter archive of Gerda’s work here, and we hope you’ll leave comments below those that tickle, aggravate or inspire you.
BTW, not mentioned in the bio below is that Liebmann is also the curator at Red Bank’s Gallery 135, which will host “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made,” a multimedia exhibit of self-portraits, selfies and Vines starting Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. Additional exhibit hours will follow Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The exhibit of self-portraits features works by local artists, including Elisabeth Koch-McKay, Robert McKay, Ellen Martin, Robert J. Vanderbei and Liebmann herself, as well as Vine short-form videos from Australia, Brazil, China, Denmark, Japan and Kuwait.
“While the self-portrait has historically held a meaningful position in art, its reputation has suffered lately as the proliferation of ‘selfies’ has led people to associate them with narcissism and exhibitionism,” said Liebmann. “This exhibit will give viewers the opportunity to reconnect with the special intimacy and self-revelation that self-portraits uniquely offer.”
Gallery 135 is located in Red Bank Community Church, 135 Monmouth Street.
