Two Shrewsbury residents were safe after an early-morning fire in the basement of their Spruce Drive home Tuesday.
Volunteer firefighters executed a “phenomenal” stop to the fire, which was reported at 4:50 a.m., Chief Pete Gibson told redbankgreen.
The fire, which awakened the residents, was contained to a corner of the basement and extinguished without significant damage from the firefighting effort.
“That’s how quick the response was,” Gibson said. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known, he said.
The house is listed in property records as owned by Lori and Donald Blahut.
On the scene aiding members of Shrewsbury Hose were emergency responders from Northside fire company in Tinton Fals, Little Silver, Rumson and Sea Bright.
