JBJ SOUL KITCHEN HOSTS HUNGER DAY EVENT

Press release from JBJ Soul Kitchen

On Saturday, May 17, the JBJ Soul Kitchen will be hosting a World Hunger Awareness event in the front gardens of the community restaurant. From 3 pm to 7 pm, the Soul Kitchen will be hosting interactive, fun and informative events with some of their local community partners to help bring awareness to the issues surrounding hunger in their community.

Amanda’s Easel will unveil garden artwork, Five Steps to End Hunger. Pilgrim Baptist Church will introduce the Share NJ Program, which will be available to the Red Bank community, and Soul Kitchen will display its “Line of Hope” interactive exhibit.

JBJ Soul Kitchen is a community restaurant where individuals or families can come to eat a delicious 3-course meal in a warm and welcoming setting and meet their neighbors.  You may pay for your meal with either the suggested donation of $10 or by volunteering to earn a dining certificate.  One hour of volunteering earns you a dining certificate for you and up to four of your family members.  Since opening in its current location of 207 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, NJ, Soul Kitchen has served over 23,000 meals with an average of over 40% being in-need diners.  Soul Kitchen operates almost entirely on a volunteer staff and last year had over 400 volunteers donate over 9,600 hours.

You can help Soul Kitchen’s mission to help eradicate hunger by joining them for a meal and/or participating in their Pay It Forward program.  You may pay the suggested donation or ‘Pay it Forward’ with a $20 donation that will cover your meal and someone else’s meal who has volunteered as payment.  All donations above the suggested amount are gladly accepted and they ask that you Pay It Forward as you see fit.  If you are unable to make it to Soul Kitchen but would like to support their efforts, you may do so here: http://do.nr/b0Ex
Whether you learn about the causes of hunger, spread the facts, donate, volunteer, or advocate to end hunger, come out and have your photo taken with your statement and have it added to the Line of Hope.  Photos will be displayed on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter on World Hunger Day, May 28, 2014.
