LINCROFT: FULL YELLOW JACKET

The buzz is about the jazz foursome Yellowjackets as they take the stage of the Henderson Theatre at Christian Brothers Academy for a Friday night fundraiser concert.

For the third year running, the close of the academic session at Christian Brothers Academy is being soundtracked not just to the stately strains of “Pomp and Circumstance,” but with a jazzy end note that points the way to creative projects to come.

This Friday night, June 27, the 350-seat Henderson Theatre at CBA hosts a special benefit concert by the Grammy winning Yellowjackets, an instrumental combo that’s been building buzz in jazz fusion circles for a generation.

The quartet of Russell Ferrante (keyboards), William Kennedy (drums), Bob Mintzer (sax) and Felix Pastorius (bass) takes the stage at 8 pm for the latest in the CBA Jazz Series of fundraising shows, this one dedicated to the performing arts program at the Lincroft boys’ high school.

Students in the program won’t merely be watching from the wings, either — the concert will also feature a set by the CBA Jazz Ensemble, fresh off their first-place finish at the 2014 Heritage Music Festival.

Take it here for tickets ($50), with admission to a pre-show Lite Fare reception starting at 6:30 pm also available for an additional $28 per person. For more information, call Rita Dorgan at (732)747-1959 x212.
