SEA BRIGHT: SANDY FLEECE GETS MAN 5 YEARS
A Matawan contractor was sentenced to five years in state prison for taking deposits for Hurricane Sandy related work he never started or completed in Sea Bright, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said in an announcement Saturday.
John Martocci, 59, was sentenced Friday on two counts of third degree theft by deception by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge John Tassini.
In July, Martocci admitted he accepted a $1,800 deposit in November 2013 for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system on a Sea Bright home but never started or completed the work and never returned the money.
Martocci also admitted he accepted a $1,411 deposit in Januar,y 2014 for a new air conditioning condenser for a victim in Howell, but failed to do the work and never returned the money, Gramiccioni said.
Martocci’s sentence will run concurrent with a state prison sentence Martocci is now serving, Tassini ordered. The state Department of Corrections website indicates Martocci has been imprisoned since May, serving three years for theft by deception and passing bad checks.
