LINCROFT: FREE WELDING COURSE AT BCC

Press release from Brookdale Community College

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the welding industry is expected to grow by 15 percent between 2010 and 2020, adding an estimated 50,000 new positions — and on June 16, The Center for Career Development (CCD) at Brookdale Community College will host an information session for a new, grant-funded welding training program.

Scheduled for 10 am on the Lincroft campus, the free 150-hour training program is sponsored by the New Jersey Community College Consortium’s Ready to Work New Jersey program, and funded in whole by the U.S. Department of Labor. Attendees will learn about growing career opportunities in the welding industry and the benefits of earning a professional certification through the CCD program.

The program is open to unemployed and underemployed individuals with a high school diploma or equivalency degree. It teaches a wide range of hands-on skills and basic industry knowledge, including arc welding, welding fabrication, rigging, blueprint reading and business communications.

Students will also sit for an American Welding Society certification exam, after which they will be eligible for an entry-level position in the field. The training program offers career guidance and job placement assistance as well.

Courses run from June 29 to August 3. All interested candidates must register for and attend the June 16 information session, held in Brookdale’s Warner Student Life Center, 765 Newman Springs Road. Parking is in lots 6 and 7. Attendees must bring an updated resume. For more information call Jim McCarthy at (732)224-2186 or email [email protected].
