RED BANK: SIDEWALK SURFIN’ FOR SAVINGS

rb-sidewalk-sale-3-072713-500x375-1703812Boxed bargains, folding-table finds and street-rack “steals” abound as the Sidewalk Sales returns to Red Bank this weekend for the 61st year.

rb-sidewalk-sale-8-072713-220x165-2474221It was a “diamond anniversary” event for which the Red Bank business community did it up grand – complete with a “pop-up museum” of historical memorabilia and a special “1950s fun” edition of the weekly StreetLife musical mashup. But how does “a cool little town” follow up a milestone like 2014’s 60th annual session of summertime Sidewalk Sale?

By forging ahead with the 61st annual Red Bank Sidewalk Sale, of course. Beginning today and running through late Sunday afternoon, one of the most firmly established community traditions enters its seventh decade as an all-welcome draw in those often lazy-hazy days of summer – not to mention a much-appreciated cornerstone of continuity, in an ever-evolving town that often transitions at a brisker clip than a lot of longtime locals can process.

Presented by Red Bank Rivercenter and hosted at locations throughout Broad, Front, White and Monmouth Streets (in addition to a bit of Bridge Avenue), the three-day thriftarama displays its wares between the hours of 10 am to 8 pm on July 24 and July 25, plus 10 am to 4 pm on July 26. It’s a strolling/rolling smorgasbord of shopping opportunities at more than 40 retail, service and entertainment businesses around town – and an excellent occasion for returning shoppers to scout Red Bank’s fast-growing landscape of restaurants and eateries.

Along with a slew of repeat participants, the 2015 promotion welcomes such new additions as Madison Boutique, Paint A Tee, Candie’s Cottage, Salon Concrete, Pure Barre and more to be announced. It all comes with a soundtrack, too, as the sidewalk/ storefront entertainers of Red Bank StreetLife will present an expanded schedule of three special sessions of performances (Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm; Saturday and Sunday afternoons from noon to 3 pm) in addition to the weekly Saturday night specialty on July 25.

Take it here for details (including an updated list of participating Sidewalk Sale merchants and a schedule of StreetLife attractions) for the 61st Red Bank Sidewalk Sales — and here for Saturday’s 6-9 pm StreetLife schedule.
