LINCROFT: A LATE-WINTER’S LAP

half-marathon-500x332-3035637One of the Greater Green’s coolest annual runs takes to the bracing air again with the 40th edition of the E. Murray Todd Half Marathon.

It’s been a favorite local running event for generations,  distinguished by the fact that it’s run through a largely residential landscape, and at the more-or-less leonine beginning of March.

Returning for its 40th annual edition this Sunday, the E. Murray Todd Half Marathon presents a 13.1-mile course that starts and finishes at the Collins Arena on the Lincroft campus of Brookdale Community College.

Along the way, runners are treated to a sometimes-challenging stretch of scenery that includes the trails of nearby Thompson Park, the horse-farm territory of Colts Neck’s Laird Road, and the hilly intervals of Holmdel’s McCampbell and Cross Roads.

While the deadline to pre-register for the 9 a.m. event has passed, the Monmouth County Park System will accept on-site race day registration starting at 7:15 a.m.

Commemorative t-shirts are available to all participants, and awards will be presented to the top finishers at the conclusion of the event.

Race-day registration costs $50 per runner. Take it here for a printable application, here for a course map, and here for a runner’s info sheet with details on check-in procedure, directions and more. For additional information about Monmouth County Park System, call (732) 842-4000.
