RUMSON SCHOOLS HOST KID’S LIT STARS

Press release from Rumson School District

amy-marie-stadelmann-4386346In an effort to get kids reading this summer, the Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip RV will visit Deane-Porter Elementary and Forrestdale Schools on Wednesday, May 4. From 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., students and families will have the opportunity to participate in their very own “pop-up” reading festival, meet some of their favorite authors and illustrators, and engage in fun reading activities.

Scheduled to make the trip to Rumson this Wednesday are six authors and illustrators of popular titles and series from Scholastic, the major publisher of books and educational materials for children and young adults. They are Max Brallier (who, under the pen name Jack Chabert, writes the Eerie Elementary series), Gavin Brown, Kristin Earhart (the Misty Inn series), Dan Poblocki (the Mysterious Four series and other spooky novels), Amy Marie Stadelmann (the Olive & Beatrix series), and Judy Blundell (who, as Jude Watson, has authored several popular Star Wars titles for  tween and teen readers).

The RV will park at the basketball courts between the two schools on Blackpoint Road, as part of a tour during which the creators will visit 25+ U.S. cities nationwide throughout the summer, traveling more than 10,000 miles to spread the message about the importance of summer reading to kids.

Featured at the event will be an activity tent with reading activities; a prize wheel; giveaway tables; animated photo stations with Clifford the Big Red Dog and “Slappy” from Goosebumps; “Instaframes” picture stations (for kids to show off their “reading muscles”), and costumed characters including The Big Red Dog himself. Kids will have a chance to meet the authors and get their books signed, with copies of their books and snacks available for purchase.

Go here to find out more about the Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip, and follow the tour live on social media via @Scholastic and #SummerReading.
