Here’s the answer to last week’s “Where.”
Last week’s photo was taken from the parking lot of the former Visiting Nurses Association of Central Jersey parking lot at 176 Riverside Avenue, near the Route 35 Cooper’s Bridge approach. The red brick facade of the VNA building was in the foreground with the blue, tan and white facade of the Colony House apartments on Bodman Place just beyond.
The two buildings share the frame in our photo, but in real life are facing completely opposite circumstances.
Colony House recently underwent a sparkling multi-year renovation that has transformed the building, its apartments and the riverfront grounds on which it sits. The vacant former VNA building will soon face the wrecking ball, with workers this week putting fences up around the site and neighbors being notified demolition is imminent. In its place will rise a five-story 212-unit apartment building approved in 2022.
This may be the final photo taken of the former VNA building, which strangely found itself in the media spotlight in 2017 when former Major League Baseball player John Valentin slammed his car through the wall of the building.
At least three readers got this one half-right (or half-wrong) identifying Colony House correctly but incorrectly guessing that the brick facade was of the Molly Pitcher Inn, which sits nearby. Sue Noone was the only one to identify the building as the “Judith Stanley building” named after the philanthropist Judith Stanley Coleman who passed away in 2010.
