RED BANK: FULL SLATE OF JUNETEENTH EVENTS THIS WEEK

For our 2nd Annual Juneteenth Fundraiser, the “Soul Food and Champagne Brunch.” It was a big success and a lot of fun last year. Just as last year, we will have live music by Chuck Lambert and a performance by actress Lorraine Stone, as she will portray a known historic character. We will of course have plenty of food and mimosa’s, which were a big hit last year! Weather permitting, this will be an outside “Garden Party” on the front lawn of the Cultural Center. Juneteenth is celebrated as the official date for the end of Slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union Troops went into Texas and told 250,000 enslaved individuals they were declared free under the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863. Slavery was formally abolished in the United States on December 6, 1865 with the ratification of the 13th Amendment. The event is being held on Sunday, June 22nd from 12 to 3pm at the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center in Red Bank. The ticket price is $75.00 per person. We will have Door Prizes, and Baskets! If you are not able to attend the event, donations are always welcome. You can purchase tickets just by clicking the “view” button below or from our website under the Events section. www.cedarviewcemetery.orgChuck Lambert plays a Juneteenth benefit brunch Sunday for the Friends of Cedarview Cemetery at the T. The nation celebrates the national holiday of Juneteenth this week, with the federal holiday held annually on June 19, Thursday. New Jersey celebrates the day on the third Friday of June, a day later this year.

Red Bank will host a full list of events to commemorate the day, beginning with an author talk at the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center, a jazz brunch to benefit a local historic African-American cemetery and, a short stroll down the street at the same time, the annual Borough of Red Bank march and celebration.

Keep scrolling for all the details.

At noon on Sunday, the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center is the site of the Friends of Cedarview Cemetery  2nd Annual Juneteenth Fundraiser, the “Soul Food and Champagne Brunch.”

Friends of Cedarview is a nonprofit established to preserve and protect the over one hundred and seventy year-old African-American Cedar View Cemetery in Lincroft; to ensure the continued solemnity of this hallowed ground; and to bring increased awareness of the cemetery’s unique historical and the overall cultural value that it brings to the public.

Also at noon on Sunday, the borough’s annual Juneteenth community celebration kicks off with a march from Pilgrim Baptist Church. See the flyer above sent out by the Borough for details.
