A wild thunderstorm bearing high winds left hundreds of Red Bank residents without power Thursday.
As of midnight Friday, Jersey Central Power & Light outage maps (and this reporter’s very dark drive home from a treacherous trip to North Jersey for the evening) show two areas in town still in the dark: One on the east side centered on Prospect Avenue affecting 500 customers; and the other on the west side near Catherine Street affecting 200 customers.
The map showed stretches of Rumson and Fair Haven also without power.
Statewide the utility had 43,000 customers without power as of midnight.
As of 9 am, a stretch of Leighton Avenue between Locust Avenue and Herbert Street remained closed to traffic due to downed limbs and apparently dangerous conditions.
