Friends, family, neighbors and members of the community are stepping up to help two families displaced by a fire in an Oakland Street duplex last week.
A GoFundMe drive has been set up for the Hernandez Family, who, “in a matter of moments..lost not only their belongings, but the place where countless memories were made,” reads the post set up by a family friend.
“The Hernandez family has always been the first to lend a hand to others in need, and now it’s our turn to support them. They are facing the difficult task of rebuilding their lives, finding a new place to live, and replacing the essentials they lost.”
Another GoFundMe has been set up for Sam and Walter Jones and their two elderly sisters who lived together in the adjacent apartment.
The two have worked at Flair Cleaners in Fair Haven for 40 years according to owner Vickie Heard. She said friends were helping the family in their difficult search for a new apartment. They are currently living in a hotel, Heard said.
“They are wonderful people and I want to help them get established,” Heard writes in the GoFundMe post. They are Red Bank Regional HS grads and have worked for me for 40 years right out of high school. Yes, 40 years!!! I would love to raise enough money and support to help them:
